A Wash of Dewy ColorMaybelline Baby Lips. Revlon Lip Butter. Clinique Chubby Sticks. For years I tried every lipstick/balm hybrid with high hopes, and each and every one turned to sticky, clumpy goo within 30 minutes of application. I was very skeptical of the new Benefit hydrating tinted balms, but a quest is a quest so I picked benebalm up anyway, making sure to hang on to the receipt for the probable return. Lets just say that receipt is now in the garbage! This balm is the bomb! It's hydrating and leaves behind a fresh wash of color, giving you that I-just-ate-a-strawberry look. Plus they work seamlessly with benefit stains to double the color impact while keeping the dewy freshness when the mood strikes.
The Combo That Protects and PerfectsIf you can switch to a BB with an SPF over 35 in the summer I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, I've yet to find one of those that is kind to my skin. I must admit I haven't really looked in a year or so though, bacause I've finally found the summer sunscreen/foundation combination of my dreams! It all starts with CoTZ face, an SPF 40 mineral foundation with a matte finish. It sets to create a really grippy, smooth surface. In other words, it acts like a makeup primer. In the warmer months I apply my CoTZ, then give it about 10 minutes to set. Next, I put on about a pump and a half of Jane Iredale liquid minerals foundation. The combination wears all day on me, and has a lovely sheer look. If you follow me on Instagram, this is what you see me wearing in just about all my candid photos.
A Just-Pinched FlushWhen it comes to the crime of wearing too much blush I say lock me up and throw away the key, baby! I'm a total blush addict, but even I will readily admit lots of powder blush looks heavy and chalky in the summer. I also find that most liquids do little more than rip up your foundation and make a smeary mess. That's why this year I'm singing a chorus of hallelujahs for Makeup Forever's new cream blush. When rubbed onto the apples of the cheeks in a circular motion this stuff creates a natural-yet-noticeable flush that's perfect for warm weather. Plus, there are tons of fun colors to play with! Most days I use the one on the top left.
A Smudge Of Sultry ShimmerFor years I avoided cream eyeshadow for fear of creasing. After reading about a bazillion and a half positive online reviews I decided to break my abstinence and try Maybelline Color Tatto. Imagine my shock when it totally lived up to the hype! This stuff is easy to smudge on with fingers, doesn't crease, and stays put all day! Audacious Asphalt, Tough as Taupe, and Bad to the Bronze are my three favorite shades for summer.
So those are my favorite summer makeup items. What are some of yours? If there anything I need to check out ASAP?
